"Mesh. We're on it."
SoDakMesh is a growing community of (loosely organized) individuals contributing to the successful deployment of decentralized mesh oriented communication technologies throughout the South Dakota region.
The idea of SoDakMesh started in 2023 with a few folks throwing around the idea that we should get organized because there's this neat technology that would be fun to deploy in the region. There were always rumblings on Reddit and other public forums where someone would mention that they have a node up, but no one was ever on so they took theirs down.
In the Fall of 2024, a small group of Mesh Addicts met to discuss putting a concerted effort in to start getting things officially organized. There were lots of conversations around what we should call ourselves, how we should coordinate, etc. The game plan was to try and create a group that could span the State of South Dakota and bring everyone together to collaborate.
In 2025, SoDakMesh was the name agreed upon, and the domain was registered. The domain was pointed at Discord, and advertised out on Meshtastic radios in hopes that others would hear the word and join in on the community. It turns out that there's quite a few folks interested in the idea, and the community is growing!
